RENDY TAN

Rendy obtained a First Class honors degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom in 2005 and a PhD from Queen Mary, University of London in 2009. He has also completed the Graduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law from the National University of Singapore.

His doctoral research focuses on organic lanthanide optoelectronic materials for the telecommunications industry. Specifically, the research involved optoelectronic materials for optical amplification in the 1.5 mm region. The technology involved is analogous to that of the more commonly known organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The research was multi disciplinary in nature with emphasis on physics, chemistry, material science and electronic engineering.

During his tenure as a researcher, he was engaged in synthesis of organic molecules, characterization of organic materials by using spectroscopy techniques such as nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared, ultraviolet, mass spectroscopy, photoluminescence and atomic microscopy. He has published his research in six peer reviewed scientific journals and has presented at an international conference in Europe. In 2005, he was awarded the Institution of Electrical Engineers prize for academic excellence and a University of London multidisciplinary scholarship to pursue his PhD. In 2007 and 2009, he was awarded the Le Fevre/Brewin research prize for best chemistry oral presentation and the physics departmental prize for his doctoral thesis, respectively.

Currently, he is involved in all areas of Intellectual Property work, in particular, Intellectual Property valuation, Freedom to Operate analysis, drafting and prosecution of patent applications. He is in the process of qualifying as a Registered Singapore Patent Agent.
