CHARLIE SIM
Charlie started out as an inventor himself, preparing his own patent specifications. He hails from a shipbuilding and offshore engineering lineage and has more than a decade of cumulative engineering experience in this field.
He started off in software engineering and later launched an investment company focusing on industrial engineering and chemicals businesses. Charlie spent a few years in biomedical engineering and robotic systems research with a local university and was part of the team that developed “the world’s first robot brain surgeon”.
Charlie has experience in licensing, having been involved in university technology licensing and having negotiated developmental license and technology transfer of speech recognition solutions to Lernaut & Hauspie. He has also assisted medical institutions, equipment suppliers and foreign engineering and design houses in brand licensing, technology licensing and technology transfer.
At Axis, Charlie focuses on technology evaluation, invention extraction, patent specification drafting and patent application prosecution. He has provided IP advice covering a broad spectrum of technical fields. Charlie’s experience with many start-up companies and individuals in addition to research institutions and corporations demonstrates his ability to assist in a client’s IP needs regardless of size and background.
In addition, Charlie is currently a part-time lecturer with The National University of Singapore (NUS) and is frequently invited as guest-speaker for various institutes of management and commerce.
